Critical essay of War Made Easy(Final Edit)

War from Vietnam to Iraq, both democratic and republican promotes their agendas by familiarizing viewers with the techniques of war propaganda. “War Made Easy” encourages viewers to think critically about the messages which are designed to promote and prolong a policy of militarism under the guise of the "war on terror "put out by today's spin doctors.

As George W. Bush Junior said, the America government considers war a product and then promotes it through the media; It’s hiring the journalists and military experts to stall negative publicity by publicizing a favorable interpretation of the reasons of the war in order to make the war become reasonable and gain the support from the American people. It is also an effective way for the American government to claim that they are democratic and responsible for the American people. I think the American government is not only promoting the “product” itself, but also the American policy.

The American government tries, through use of propaganda, to embellish the war. “Don’t just think about yourself, Americans can’t be so selfish.” Actually, what the journalists and military experts report to the public is controlled by the American government. All the media companies cooperate to serve the government; Few of them dare to say “no” to the war. After Vietnam War, war reporting appears to have fallen under the monitor of the American military. This is the reason why we only see images of the “nice American military” and, at most, the action of, say, setting fire to a house on television. Many facts of the war are hided by the government, since nobody is willing to promote the negative side of its product to damage the well-being of the public towards the government.

In fact, the American government loves war than any one else. Faced with a growing population who realize the lies being promoted more, the American government claims that they will not “cut it run” but stay the course, because stopping the war will not bring peace, it will bring more war. With the report of almost all the media and spin doctors, this kind of statement will influence the public’s attitude toward war and the make those who are against war get into trouble.

Although the war makes many people suffer a lot, it still benefits the government. Because of the new weapons development involved, war is a good opportunity for the sale and export of weaponry, as well as an excuse to restrict other countries’ development.

How can the American government justify lying to the public over such a long time? Journalists and spin doctors need to realize that what they do for the government is harmful for the whole society, decreases their personal integrity of professionalism, and only encourages more lies from the government. It is only when our media gatekeepers change their attitudes about patriotism and participation in the war effort that people will be able to live peaceful lives.

  1. I always liked Bush's "famous" line "If your not with us, you're with the terrorists." I totally agree that the media only gives the public one option - and we all know which option that is... The American government idea of never giving into "cut and run" sort of force feeds us the patriotic mentality. They look at it as if WE cannot give in, with a complete disregard to the men and women who are actually over there fighting.

War can do some good things - it's a great way to boost a struggling economy (believe it or not) and as you stated, it's also a good way to sell and test out these weapons everyone seems so hung up on. On the other hand, if we could ACTUALLY see what the use of these weapons has done to the families and lives of civilians over in the middle east, I think the thoughts and opinions we have on this war would be much different. But... we probably won't ever get to see them - courtesy of the media gatekeepers.

  2. You clearly stated out how the governmnent made and continue the war, and the reason behind this. By controling the mass media, the government promoted propagandas that can actually "blinded" the audiences. And all the things did within the propaganda were to gain support from audiences and fulfill it's own desire. As an audience who wants to see the truth without being mislead by the government, we have to see the whole story, and think in our position.
